Summer Sky is Full of Roses

Ja sitten taas huivien pariin. Janina Kallio Design:n Ravelry-ryhmässä alkoi taas perinteinen kesäKAL, joten ei muuta kuin huivia puikoille. Tämä oli jo sarjassaan kymmenes tänä vuonna, mutta ei viimeinen. Lontoosta ostamani ihana Dye For Yarns:n merinosilkki muuntautui Summer Sky-huiviksi 4,0mm pyöröillä ja lankaa kului kaikkiaan 99 grammaa. Väri on nimeltään Bouquet of Dark Roses. Onneksi vyyhdissä oli muutama ylimääräinen gramma, joten ei tarvinnut panikoida huivia päätellessä. Kokoa huiville tuli 60cm x 178cm eli ihan passelin kokoinen. Pingotusjälki ei ole kaunein mahdollinen, mutta ei haittaa, halusin tämän käyttöön mitä pikimmiten.

And then back to shawls. The traditional summerKAL started in the Janina Kallio Design's Ravelry group.This was my tenth shawl this year, but not the last. The amazing Dye For Yarns merinosilk I bought from London turned into Summer Sky with 4,0mm circulars. I used 99 grams of the colourway Bouquet of Dark Roses and luckily this skein had a few grams extra so I didn't have to play yarn chicken this time. The size is 60cm x 178cm so it's just about right. I blocked this a bit too hastily so the edges could look a bit better but I don't care. I just want to use this as soon as possible.

 

Going Bananas

Kun inspiraatio iskee, sitä pitää seurata. Yhtäkkiä vain totesin, että tarvitsen banaanipolvarit. Ei siis muuta kuin Snurreen hakemaan taas siililankaa. Hedgehog Fibres Sock:a värissä Banana Legs upposi näihin polvareihin 178 grammaa 2,25mm pyöröillä loopaten ja ai jestas kun näistä tuli mahtavat!

When inspiration hits, you need to pay attention to it. I just suddenly knew, I needed a pair of banana knee-highs. What else was there to do but go to Snurre. These took  178 grams of Hedgehog Fibres Sock in colourway Banana legs. I used 2,25mm circulars. Oh boy, these turned out better than expected!

5 Colours of Cashmere

Toissaviikonloppu meni Tampereella Finnconissa. Oli mahtava reissu ja tällä kertaa conineulomuksena olikin kauluri eikä perinteisen kaavan mukaan sukat.

I spent the weekend before last in Tampere at Finncon. It was an amazing trip and this time, despite my usual consocks, I made a cowl. 

Kolmessa päivässä syntyi versioni Joji Locatellin supersuositusta mallista 3 color cashmere cowl ja lankana käytin ensimmäistä kertaa Holst Garnin Noblea. Olen jo pidempään halunnut kokeilla Holstin Noblea ja tilasin juuri tätä projektia varten Titityystä kaksi kappaletta shadebagejä (väri nro 4). Yhdessä setissä oli lankaa n. 60 grammaa ja kuten jo etukäteen laskeskelin, ei yksi ihan riittänyt. Lankaa meni yhteensä 70 grammaa ja käytössä oli 3,0mm pyöröt. Lankaa jäi siis vielä kämmekkäisiin. Neuloessa Noble oli rouheahkoa, mutta pehmeni villapesuaineella ihanan pehmoiseksi.

Todella addiktoiva ja kohtuu aivoton neule syntyi kolmessa päivässä sukkelaan. Päättäjäisissä päättelin silmukat, mutta kotona totesin että uusiksi meni sillä reuna oli todella löysä lerppu. Purin päättelyn ja vaihdoin tekniikkaa. Kyllä tuli hyvä! Heinäkuu on pitänyt huolen, että tätä on tullut jo pidettyä ahkerasti. Kauluri on ihanan ohut mutta silti niin lämmin. Taidan tehdä toisenkin. Ja Noblea täytynee hommata lisää villapaidan verran. Tykästyin. Ja tosiaan, osallistuin tällä kaulurilla myös Grocery Girlsien Joji KALiin.

In three days my version of the 3 color cashmere cowl by Joji Locatelli was born. I used Holst Garn Noble for the first time. I've wanted to try it for some time now and I ordered two shadebags (color number 4) from Titityy. One set holds about 60 grams and as I predicted, one wouldn't have been enough. I used 70 grams in total with 3,0mm circulars. So I still have yarn for a matching pair of fingerless mittens. The yarn was pretty rustic while knitting but softened a lot in wool wash.

This pattern was pretty mindless, quick and totally addictive. I finished it in those three days and was binding off while participating in the ending seremonies. But. At home I realised my bind off edge was way too loose and I had to re-do it with another technique. Now it's perfect! Due to the unusually cold weather in July, this has already been used a lot. It is so light but still warm. I think I'll need to make another one. And I'll definitely need to get a sweater quantity of Noble. Oh, and this was my second knit for the Grocery Girls Joji KAL.

Ja matkamuistoksi tarttui mukaan Lankaideasta yksi kerä Austermann Step:ä ja täginsä kadottanut Manos Del Uruguayn Marina, joka on luultavasti väri nimeltä Sangre. Ei siis lähtenyt shoppailu käsistä.

And the souvenirs I bought from Lankaidea, a skein of Austermann Step and a skein of Manos del Uruguay Marina that had lost its tag. The colour is most likely Sangre. Amazingly enough I managed to control my yarn shopping this time.

Pure Joy

Neuletempausten parissa mennään edelleen. Grocery Girls:t aloittivat kesän kunniaksi Jojialong:n eli tarkoituksena on neuloa Joji Locatellin malleja elokuun loppuun saakka. Olinkin jo odottanut sopivaa hetkeä ottaa puikoille Pure Joy. Ohjeen sai taannoin huhtikuussa ilmaiseksi Jojin syntymäpäivänä, mutta nykyään se on maksullinen.

Nimensä mukaan tätä on ilo neuloa. Ainaoikeaa, raitoja, lyhennettyjä kerroksia. Kerrassaan aivotonta neulomista ja tulosta syntyy vauhdilla. Langoiksi tähän valikoitui varaston uumenissa vuodesta 2012 asti marinoitunut Wollmeise Pure WD Merlot ja sille kaveriksi Hedgehog Fibres Sock värissä Rusty Nail. Olisin alunperin halunnut yhdistää Merlot:n vihreään, mutta minut puhuttiin ympäri. Ja hyvin tämäkin yhdistelmä tuntuu toimivan. 4,0mm:n pyöröillä lankaa meni yhteensä 192 grammaa. Wollmeisea varastossa piisaa ja nyt jo mietin josko Merlot:n voisi yhdistää seuraavaksi johonkin läikkävärjättyyn luonnonvalkoiseen... Hmmm. Työlistalla olisi myös 3 color cashmere cowl ja Rocio. Katsotaan.

The on-going theme here is still knit-a-longs. Grocery Girls started a Jojialong which means knitting Joji Locatelli's patterns until the end of August. I'd been waiting for the perfect time to start my Pure Joy. I got the pattern back in April when it was free on Joji's birthday but now it is once again a paid for pattern.

The name is true, this was a pure joy to knit. Garter, stripes, short rows. Lovely brainless knit that is finished in no time. I chose an oldie from my stash, Wollmeise Pure WD Merlot (bought in 2012!) and paired it with Hedgehog Fibres Sock in Rusty Nail colourway. I originally wanted to pair Merlot with green but I was told the orange would be better. And it was worth it, these two work well together. All in all this took 192 grams with 4,0mm circulars. I have plenty of Wollmeise in my stash and I'm already thinking Merlot might look amazing paired with a speckledyed off white. Hmmm. I also have 3 color cashmere cowl and Rocio in my queue. We shall see.

KALisevat sukat

Vuorossa viimein kasa sukkia.
Osallistuin Fine and Dandy-sukillani Knitting Expat podcastin Expat Yarn KALiin sekä Grocery Girls podcastin Fancy Feet KALiin. Jälkimmäisen osalta minua onnisti arvonnassa ja Kanadasta on tulossa postia jossain vaiheessa. Siitä sitten myöhemmin.

Lanka on A Homespun House:n Soft Sock:a värissä Tooty Fruity ja sitä meni 88 grammaa 2,5mm pyöröillä. Jo ostaessa tiesin mitä langasta tekisin ja tähän malliin tuo riemunkirjava lanka sopi oikein mainiosti. En tosin ihastunut laisinkaan näiden kukkakuvioiden neulomiseen kun tiheys vaihteli kerrosten kesken melkoisesti. Tulipahan kokeiltua. Lanka oli ihanan pehmoista neulottavaa, mutta näinköhän kestää käytössä. Unisukkina ovat olleet tähän asti ja hieman jo alkavat nyppyyntyä.

Time for socks, finally.
I doubledipped my Fine and Dandy socks into the Knitting Expat's Expat Yarn KAL and to the Grocery Girls' Fancy Feet KAL. And I won a prize in the latter one! But more on that once I get mail from Canada.

The yarn is A Homespun House Soft Sock in Tooty Fruity colourway. I used  88 grams with 2,5mm circulars. I knew what I wanted to make of this yarn already when I bought it and I think this varigated yarn works well in this pattern. Knitting the flowers though, that was a pain. I had trouble with the tension all the way. Oh well, at least they are ready now. The yarn was amazingly soft and lovely to knit but I wonder how they'll last in use. So far I've only used them at night but they seem to be pilling already.

Tuin Kutomossa puolestaan jatkuu vielä ApinaKAL ja osallistuin siihen vielä kaksilla sukilla. Molemmissa lankana Vuorelman Veto, sitä uudempaa tuotantoa. Ja eipä ole lanka enää entisensä, nykyinen on ihan yhtä karheaa neuloa kuin Seiskaveikka. En tykännyt.

Malli on Cookie A:n Baudelaire, jonka ohje löytyy Knittystä. Taitaa olla keksitädin ainokainen varpaista varteen neulottava malli. Mallineuleen oppi hetkessä ulkoa, joten toista paria neuloessa ei ohjetta tarvinnut enää edes vilkaista. Punaiset ovat kokoa 41/42 ja turkoosit 38/39 ja menekki molemmissa 100 grammaa per pari. Isompiin tuli vähän lyhyehköt varret, mutta lanka ei riittänyt pidemmälle. Nämä neuloin 3,0 mm pyöröillä. Molemmat menevät lahjaksi.

The ApinaKAL (Cookie A KAL) is still ongoing in Tuin Kutomo so I made two more pairs of Cookie A socks for that. I used Vuorelman Veto for both and that yarn is not what it used to be. It's almost as coarse as Novita 7 veljestä these days. Not happy.

The pattern is Baudelaire by Cookie A. It's probably the only toe-up pattern she's made.The chart was quick to memorise and I didn't need it at all when I made the second pair. The red ones are size 41/42 and the turquoise ones are 38/39. Both used 100 grams each with 3,0mm circulars. The cuffs in the bigger ones are a bit too short but I didn't have any more yarn left. Oh well. These will both be gifted.
